Conserving Water with Low Flow Shower Heads
Preserving our earth’s natural resources is very important. That’s why companies have developed low flow shower heads to help in that cause. Installing one in your home is easy, uses only the simplest tools, and will help you do your part in conservation.
It’s All in Your Head
You may be wondering if you install a low flow shower head, will you have a weak dribble of water and will it take you twice as long to clean up? That wouldn’t be saving much water at all! In fact, the way these shower heads are designed, you will be quite surprised. They actually use LESS water, and you will probably have a MORE forceful shower stream! This is done with the way the shower heads are designed. There are many channels and bottlenecks which the water coming through your pipes has to force itself through before it can come out to you. To test this out, you could grab a garden hose outside. Turn the water on just enough so a calm flow comes out the end of the hose. Then, place your thumb over the end of the hose. See what happens? The blockage (your thumb) pressurizes the water, and now you’ve got a very powerful stream! Same exact thing happens with the low flow shower head. So relax, your showering will probably improve with one of these new heads installed!
Saving the Environment
When you use a low flow shower head, you’re not only getting a stronger, more powerful flow. You’re also using less water, and the earth thanks you for that! Actually, before the earth can thank you, your local town water department probably thanks you too. If you don’t have city water you are running off of a well, it may not be on your property but it may be a municipal well. When you use your water, you’re getting it from that well. During the summer months, some local governments will impose water bans on towns that are using heavy amounts of water. This isn’t from taking showers, and won’t ever intrude on your right to stay clean; these restrictions are typically from homeowners watering their lawns, washing their cars, filling pools and other outdoor activity that uses a lot of water. The less water we can all use, the more there will be for others, and the more we can save from being wasted.
Saving your Wallet
Besides saving the environment, by installing a low flow shower head you’re also going to notice another decrease. A decrease in your water bill! By using less water every month, you’re obviously going to be charged less for usage.
Rinse and Repeat
These are the results we would see with just changing ONE shower head with low flow shower heads. Imagine the further savings you would see if you replaced all of your faucets with low flow heads. The savings would increase with every new head you replace!
